Power supply and conversion products in brochure

Arrow has produced a new brochure focusing on power supply and conversion products.

Arrow has produced a new brochure focusing on power supply and conversion products. 'Arrow Power Supplies 2006' provides details of the latest products that are available, through Arrow, from some of the world's leading manufacturers. The 16-page, full-colour brochure is intended as an essential tool for designers tasked with implementing AC/DC and DC/DC power supply and conversion designs.

Detailed information is laid out clearly and logically, with easily digestible, 'at-a-glance' data on products from companies such as Artesyn Technologies, Astec Power, CandD Technologies, Power One and Tyco Electronics.

The brochure also includes an outline of Arrow's capabilities and expertise, from the provision of standard products to the creation of modified or fully custom systems and solutions.

It concludes with an overview of Arrow's complete linecard, the broadest in the industry, which includes a wide range of products to complement and support power supply design and implementation, along with virtually everything from the smallest resistor to the latest advanced display technology.

Miniature circuit breakers protect electronics

At 17.5mm wide for single pole versions and 52.5mm wide for triple-pole types, Moeller Electric's new Xpole FAZ miniature circuit breakers have a breaking capacity of 15kA, in line with IEC/EN6094.

At 17.5mm wide for single pole versions and 52.5mm wide for triple-pole types, Moeller Electric's new Xpole FAZ miniature circuit breakers (MCBs) have a breaking capacity of 15kA, in line with IEC/EN6094. This makes them an attractive and cost-effective choice for use in industrial applications where space is always at a premium, and high prospective fault currents are often encountered. In addition to the standard B, C and D trip characteristics, Moeller is offering Xpole FAZ MCBs with the new Z, K and S characteristics, which are of particular interest to OEMs and designers of automation systems.

Specifically designed to protect sensitive electronic equipment, the Z characteristic has a short-circuit response current of 2 to 3In, combined with quick-reaction overload protection.

The K characteristic has a short-circuit response current of 8 to 12In, which prevents nuisance tripping with three-phase loads such as motors, while the S characteristic with its exceptionally high 13 to 17In short-circuit response provides a complete solution to the problem of protecting control transformers and other loads with very high inrush currents.

Moeller Electric's new Xpole FAZ MCBs are available with ratings from 0.5A to 63A, and are offered in single-, double-, three- and four-pole versions.

All types comply with a broad range of national and international standards, including UL and CSA, there is even a special series of devices which fully comply with UL489.

A range of accessories, which includes auxiliary signalling contacts and shunt-trip mechanisms, provides additional functionality.

To ensure fast and easy assembly, most accessories simply snap into place without the need to use tools.

The breakers themselves are designed for convenient mounting on standard DIN rail.

The new compact Xpole FAZ MCBs are complemented by an extensive family of RCCBs, combined RCD/MCB's (RCBO's) and control devices.

The PKNM combined RCD/MCB's offer triple protection in a single device, namely overload, short-circuit and residual current protection in the space of only two MCB widths.

Catering for either B or C characteristics, they are available from 6A to 40A with rated fault currents of 30mA or 300mA.

Xpole type AZ MCBs are also available for use in applications where current ratings up to 125A and a switching capacity greater than 15kA is needed.

Metal-look inserts for illuminated control panels

Designers can create a distinctive, sophisticated-looking illuminated control panel using the new range of metal-look inserts from EAO, the Expert Partner for Human Machine Interfaces.

Create a distinctive, sophisticated-looking illuminated control panel using the new range of metal-look inserts from EAO, the Expert Partner for Human Machine Interfaces. The inserts are made from plastic. They can be marked with a wide range of transparent symbols either from EAO's range of standard designs or according to the customer's own.

When fixed in front of a pushbutton's diffuser, they allow light to shine through the symbol and around the edge to create a glowing 'halo', which helps the operator identify the switch in unfavourable light conditions.

LED illumination is available in range of colours including white.

These products are popularly used for driver controls by bus, coach, rail and car builders, but are also suitable for applications used within the telecoms, machinery, medical, process control and automation sectors.

The inserts are offered as an addition to the ranges of round Series 61 and Series 71 switches.

These ranges offer raised- or flush-mounting pushbuttons and indicators in either 16 or 22.5mm sizes.

They are protected to IP65 from the front so are suitable for challenging environments.

EAO's skilled engineering department also provides a full, solutions-design service.

Low cost, low power transceivers

Telegesis' latest ETRX2 ZigBee modules have been selected by RS Components for inclusion in a new wireless and radio frequency products section being introduced to its catalogue.

Telegesis' latest ETRX2 ZigBee modules have been selected by RS Components for inclusion in a new wireless and radio frequency products section being introduced to its catalogue. They are the first Telegesis products to be available from this industry leading catalogue. The ETRX2 modules are low cost, low power transceivers that can be embedded in a wide range of devices to produce self-organising, self-healing wireless meshes.

Incorporating the new single chip EM250 ZigBee system from Ember, they offer developers a simple means for bringing advanced wireless-enabled products to market quickly without the need for RF experience and expertise.

Telegesis provides an AT-style command line interface for the modules, which is similar in style to that used to control dial-up modems.

This interface makes it easy for those not expert in ZigBee wireless technology to develop applications without the need for complex software engineering.

'We are delighted to be included in the new RS Components catalogue,' said Telegesis' managing director, Nicholas Gomersall.

'This new section reflects the vast potential for growth with new wireless network technologies such as ZigBee.' 'RS recognises the growing significance of wireless technology in the industrial machine-to-machine marketplace,' said Graham Johnson, UK Marketing Manager of RS.

'We have carefully selected our new range of cutting-edge solutions from leaders in their field, and are very pleased to include the Telegesis ZigBee modules among them.' The modules are suitable for a wide range of innovative monitoring and control applications, including automatic meter reading, wireless alarms and security, home and building automation, industrial controls, item tracking and control of PC peripherals.

Medium-and high-voltage ceramic capacitors

Responding to demands for medium-and high-voltage ceramic capacitors in high-current applications, AVX has designed its SK and SV ranges.

Responding to demands for medium-and high-voltage ceramic capacitors in high-current applications such as military, harsh environment power supplies, high-voltage coupling and DC-blocking, AVX has designed its SK and SV ranges. The SK series provides a robust solution designed to handle high currents in medium voltage applications (up to 500V) such as input/output filtering in Switch Mode Power Supplies (SMPS) with the RoHS-compliant ranges particularly suitable for commercial applications. For higher voltage systems up to 5kV, the SV series of high-voltage MLC radial capacitors delivers high CV in small case sizes, such as 1.2uF in the SV17 package with 1kVDC rating.

The devices exhibit low ESR at high frequencies and benefit from low leakage characteristics.

'The added advantage of both these capacitor families lies in a special internal design minimising the electric field stresses within the MLC,' says David Buick, AVX Product Marketing Manager.

'This results in a significant reduction of partial discharge activity within the dielectric, which has a major impact on the long-term reliability of the product.' Devices are comformally coated with a high insulation resistance, high dielectric strength epoxy eliminating the possibility of arc flashover.
