Terminal blocks have better clamping

An improved range of 36-way terminal blocks feature a new stamped and formed rising clamp mechanism fabricated from 0.7mm gauge brass that offers improved strength.

Camden Electronics has launched a new and improved range of 36-way terminal blocks that feature numerous design enhancements to deliver better quality and improved strength among other attributes. The new CTB7000 and CTB7300 series terminal blocks are now available in standard colour grey (RAL 7035) to complement Camden's range of din rail mounting enclosures. CTB7000 and CTB7300 terminal blocks feature a new stamped and formed rising clamp mechanism fabricated from 0.7mm gauge brass that offers improved strength in comparison with previous generation products and imported terminal blocks.

Such products are often based on inferior materials and users frequently find that over-turning the screw mechanism can make the clamp buckle.

Camden has also heat treated the metalwork to further harden and strengthen the material.

In common with all Camden's latest terminal block designs, the new CTB7000 and CTB7300 terminal blocks feature a new clamp design with a lip that prevents users from accidentally inserting a second wire into the terminal once a cable has been clamped.

This avoids any possibility of incorrect wiring.

Moulded from UL94-V0 flame retardant grey polycarbonate, the new terminal blocks are available in unique 36-way strips that can easily be cut to the required number of poles.

For volume orders, Camden will supply strips pre-cut to a specified number of poles.

The new polycarbonate versions deliver better electrical characteristics and produce less 'flash' when cutting or breaking into required lengths.

A further design enhancement is the fully enclosed base that enables circuit designers to incorporate additional PCB tracks between the pins if required.

CTB7000 and CTB7300 terminal blocks are 5mm pitch with the 7000 series offering standard 90 deg cable entry while the 7300 version is a pluggable terminal block for either vertical or 90 deg mounting.

Additional features include guided pin alignment and captive screws.

CTB7300 terminal blocks can also be supplied with polarising clips (CTB7300/C) that can be fitted to each end of the male connector to ensure correct vertical or horizontal orientation of the female part.

Specifications for CTB7000 series terminal blocks include 4mm2 cable entry, 17.5A/380V rating, dielectric strength -2.5kV/60s, insulation resistance -5M ohms, and working temperature from -20 to +125 deg C.

The CTB7300 series rating is 13.5A/380V with other specifications as for the CTB7000.

Both new connectors feature cUR, UL and CE approvals.

CTB7000 types also have VDE approval.

Conduit provides FMC protection

For applications where essential plant and equipment need EMC screening to prevent malfunction, a non-metallic EMC conduit provides screening to 60dB at 1MHz.

For applications where essential plant and equipment need EMC screening to prevent malfunction, Screenflex 1 electrical conduit available from Kopex International provides the solution. It is a non-metallic EMC conduit that provides screening to 60dB at 1MHz. This system has been designed to offer highly flexible screening solutions for most static or flexing applications and is also both zero halogen and cadmium free.

These features make it intrinsically safe to use in hygiene sensitive environments, the food industry, the MOD industry and within hazardous areas.

Constructed from either a standard duty or heavy duty enhanced nylon, with a tinned copper internal braid, Screenflex 1 offers an operating temperature range of -40 deg C to +120 deg C and an IP rating of 66.

Connectors are available in both male straight and 90 deg elbow.

Both types of connector clamp the internal braiding inside the housing, thus providing a secure earthing bond.

Fully compatible with Kopex's Quick Click range, Screenflex 1 is quick and easy to install, and requires no special tools.

Screenflex systems are just part of the Kopex Screenforce range which offer varying levels of electromagnetic screening.

They are available from any of the company's network of Accredited Specialist Stockists.

* About Kopex - Kopex International Limited has been manufacturing and supplying highly engineered solutions for the protection of electrical cables since 1947.

Uninterruptible power provided on DIN rail

An uninterruptible and compact power supply for DIN rails ensures continuous operation of all 24V devices in electrical installations during power disruptions.

An uninterruptible and compact power supply for DIN rails ensures continuous operation of all 24V devices in electrical installations during power disruptions. The DC-UPS/10A uninterruptible power supply for DIN rails from Phoenix Contact ensures continuous operation of all 24V devices in electrical installations during power disruptions. These power supplies are particularly interesting for applications requiring smooth-running processes in spite of poor grid quality and an unreliable power supply.

The especially compact dimensions of 100 x 130 x 125mm are made possible thanks to the integrated 1.3 Ah battery module.

The buffer time varies according to the load current: The module supplies 10A for 1.5 min or 1A for 30 min.

Connected devices can be divided into buffered and un-buffered loads using the integrated diodes.

If a continuous power supply is not essential, devices can be connected to the 24V DC output on the power supply.

This increases the buffer time for critical loads.

Battery management and reliable signalling increase plant availability in comparison with standard installations.

The power supply displays the battery charging status, the operating state and buffer mode, as well as warning when the battery module charge is running low.

Installation work is kept to a minimum thanks to integrated functions such as the timeout feature or preassembled insertion bridges used in place of customary wiring.

Approval by Germanischer Lloyd (GL) for ship building and offshore applications demonstrates the trouble-free operation and long life span these power supplies offer, as GL approval sets high standards in terms of resistance to climatic strains and mechanical loads as well as electromagnetic compatibility.
