Medium-and high-voltage ceramic capacitors

Responding to demands for medium-and high-voltage ceramic capacitors in high-current applications, AVX has designed its SK and SV ranges.

Responding to demands for medium-and high-voltage ceramic capacitors in high-current applications such as military, harsh environment power supplies, high-voltage coupling and DC-blocking, AVX has designed its SK and SV ranges. The SK series provides a robust solution designed to handle high currents in medium voltage applications (up to 500V) such as input/output filtering in Switch Mode Power Supplies (SMPS) with the RoHS-compliant ranges particularly suitable for commercial applications. For higher voltage systems up to 5kV, the SV series of high-voltage MLC radial capacitors delivers high CV in small case sizes, such as 1.2uF in the SV17 package with 1kVDC rating.

The devices exhibit low ESR at high frequencies and benefit from low leakage characteristics.

'The added advantage of both these capacitor families lies in a special internal design minimising the electric field stresses within the MLC,' says David Buick, AVX Product Marketing Manager.

'This results in a significant reduction of partial discharge activity within the dielectric, which has a major impact on the long-term reliability of the product.' Devices are comformally coated with a high insulation resistance, high dielectric strength epoxy eliminating the possibility of arc flashover.
