Cable strain relief is twice as effective

A cable strain relief strap has now been developed for igus Energy Chains and effectively eliminates safety issues for cables and hoses and provides double the relief of a standard strain relief.
A new cable strain relief strap has now been developed for igus Energy Chains. The 'Chainfix' strap, used with igus cable carriers, effectively eliminates safety issues for cables and hoses and provides double the relief of a standard strain relief. In highly dynamic Energy Chain applications, the demands placed on a safe strain relief are especially high: limited space, multi-layered cables, vibrations and fluctuating temperatures.

This particularly applies with electric cables, but also with other media, such as hydraulic and pneumatic hoses.

A conventional, standard strain relief is barely sufficient here.

To fix cables safely inside an Energy Chain, igus' engineers in Cologne have developed the Chainfix strap.

Its slim width (cable width plus about 4mm) and low height (cable diameter plus about 30mm) allow optimal use of limited internal space.

An important design feature is the ribbed pressure-, counter- and press-trough.

The ribs increase the supporting surface of the cables.

This causes the cables to clutch the troughs, resulting in a safe strain relief for various cable diameters and materials.

Insertion into the tightly packed connecting elements is made easier by a special 'foot', which allows the strap to be inserted into the C-rail at an angle of just 24%.

According to laboratory tests, the strain relief provided by Chainfix straps is double that of standard strain reliefs.

The tests compared standard straps (double- and press-trough made of shock-resistant plastic) with Chainfix straps (double- and press-trough made of igus material igumid G).

The stainless steel Chainfix strap, CF 18.1 (for an 18mm cable diameter), attained a strain relief of 1.282N.

Chainfix straps are available in steel, black varnished or stainless steel.
