Check up on power supplies

A quick glance is all that's needed to confirm that power supplies are performing in line with requirements - more space savings, more reliability, and more options.

A quick glance is all that's needed to confirm that power supplies in the new S8VS range from Omron Electronics are performing in line with requirements - more space savings, more reliability, and more options. A standard, ultra compact power supply measuring as little as 40mm wide is complemented by a more advanced, yet identically sized, unit featuring an integral three-digit display which shows real-time output voltage or current. Invaluable during commissioning and fault-finding, these indications are a useful aid to performance monitoring during normal plant operation.

The display can also be set by the user to show the peak current which has been delivered by the power supply output and, depending on model, it can display either a maintenance forecast or the power supply's total operating time to date.

Supplied, as standard, with a five-year warranty, S8VS power supplies are available in 60-watt and 90-watt versions with 24V DC outputs.

All types are suitable for operation from AC inputs in the range 85V to 264V, 50/60Hz, and carry CE, UL and CSA approvals, making them ideal for use throughout the world.

The units are designed for direct mounting on standard DIN-rail, and feature space-saving, ultra-compact construction.

Power Factor Correction is built into the 90-watt version.

S8VS power supplies boast a long life expectancy, typically exceeding 10 years.

The optional maintenance forecast feature takes into account the aging of electrolytic capacitors, which is inevitable in any power supply.

By calculating the period of time for which the power supply has been used, and factoring in its operating temperature throughout this period, the forecast facility is able to provide advance warning of when this aging process is likely to reach the point where maintenance will be needed.

In addition to the visual indication on the display, 90-watt models with the maintenance forecast feature also offer an output signal which can be used to provide remote indication of the need for maintenance.

S8VS power supplies with the run-time indicator option show the accumulated operating time in thousands of hours.

This option is particularly suitable where the equipment powered by the supply needs regular maintenance, as the indicator reading can then be used as an aid to maintenance scheduling.

Ninety-watt supplies with run-time indication can generate an output signal when a particular operating time total, pre-set by the user, is reached.
